JASC Offices Closed

  • Jane Addams Senior Caucus (map)

Our offices will be closed May 31 to June 4 so that our hardworking team of leaders and staff can rest and restore before an exciting summer of action!

A note on rest & vacations:
Vacations are important. They prevent burn out, help job performance, promote well-being and connection with loved ones, keep us healthier, and reduce stress. JASC is closed for one week because we believe that care and rest are essential parts of community organizing and sustaining ourselves in this movement.

Paid time off is a privilege too few American workers possess.

The United States is the only advanced economy in the world that does not guarantee its workers paid vacation. Almost 1 in 4 Americans has no paid time off or paid holidays. Less than half of low-wage workers have any paid vacation at all, compared to 90% of high-wage workers.

There are also 53 million people in the U.S who provide care to a child, aging elder, and/or someone with a disability. Family caregivers in this country who provide incredible labor to make sure their loved ones are taken care of have no vacation because caring for a loved one never ends.

This year, COVID has laid bare the inadequacy of our care system and the need for a robust system of care in our economy. Now more than ever we see the arduous labor that caregivers perform in this country. Caregiving is the backbone of our economy and it is essential for us to build back our economy centering care in any economic recovery. Whether we are caring for a child, a loved one with a disability, or an elderly family member we need policies in place that allow us to provide that care without economic strain.

Let's work together to ensure that all workers, including family caregivers, can enjoy the benefits a vacation brings.
